Met upon arrival at Paro airport and proceed for lunch. Drive to Thimphu for two hours. Enroute we will be passing through the confluence of two rivers that have on their banks, three small chortens, each built in Nepali, Bhutani, and Tibetan style. After checking in, we begin our walking tour of Thimphu including a late afternoon visit to Memorial Chorten which provides spectacular opportunity to join devotees spinning the prayer wheels as well as doing the kora around the memorial stupa. This National Memorial Chorten was created by the third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, as a monument to world peace and prosperity. Completed in 1974 after his untimely death, it is both a memorial to the Late King (“the Father of modern Bhutan”) and a monument to world peace. The paintings and statues inside the monument provide a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy

Full day sightseeing of Thimphu including another early morning visit to Memorial Stupa again. Later drive up to Thimphu view point and then hike through the forest for 2 hours. Our path will give us great views of Thimphu Dzong. Hike past the village of Chokortse and we end up at the monastic school of Denchen Phordang. Later visit the Anne (nunnery) Gompa. We will also visit: The National Library, which holds a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts, some dating back several hundred years, as well as modern academic books mainly on Himalayan culture and religion; The Institute for Zorig Chusum (commonly known as Painting School) where students undertake a six-year course on the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan; The Textile and Folk Heritage Museums. These museums provide fascinating insights into Bhutanese material culture and way of life; Handicrafts Emporium: This government-run enterprise displays a wide range of beautifully hand-woven textiles and craft products. It also carries a small collection of books on Bhutan, Buddhism and Himalayan culture.

After early breakfast, we drive up to Dochu La (3,088m/ 10,130 ft) stopping briefly here to take in the view and admire the chortens, mani walls, and prayer flags which decorate the highest point on the road. If skies are clear, the following peaks can be seen from this pass (left to right): Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m ), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ), a table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana - finally Gangkar puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497m. On the way, we will do a farmland hike to Chimi Lakhang. It is situated on a hillock in the centre of the valley, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, who in the late 15th century used humor, songs and outrageous behavior to dramatize his teachings and due to this also known as ‘Divine Madman’. This temple is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and wanting one, if they pray at this temple, they are usually blessed with a child very soon. It is about 30 minute walk across field from the road to the temple. The trail leads across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana, meaning ‘field’. It then follows a tiny stream downhill to Yoaka and across more fields before making a short climb to Chimi Lhakhang. In the afternoon we will visit the Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955, and still serves as the winter residence of the monk body. The first King, Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned here in 1907. The fortress has withstood several damages from fire, earthquake and flood. The latest flood of October1994 caused great damages to the fortress but miraculously spared the statue of Buddha

After breakfast, drive to Paro retracing our path over Dachu La again. In the afternoon visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the 10 Himalayas by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo. The building of this temple marks the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan
