Exploring Rajasthan: A FAM Tour Through Chittorgarh, Bundi, Ranthambhore & Jaipur

Rajasthan—India’s land of royal grandeur and timeless heritage—continues to captivate travellers and tourism professionals alike. As part of a recent FAM (Familiarization) tour, I had the opportunity to journey through some of the state’s most iconic and culturally rich destinations: Chittorgarh, Bundi, Ranthambhore, and Jaipur. Each stop offered a unique window into Rajasthan’s layered history, vibrant architecture, and immersive experiences that are perfect for both domestic and international travellers.

From the towering forts of Chittorgarh to the charming blue lanes of Bundi, the wildlife-rich landscapes of Ranthambhore, and the regal elegance of Jaipur, this curated itinerary provided not just inspiration, but actionable insights into what makes Rajasthan a must-sell destination fortravel professionals. Join me as I recount this unforgettable journey—highlighting key attractions, on-ground experiences, and valuable takeaways for anyone looking to promote or plan travel in this majestic region.

Chittorgarh: A Town of Timeless Stories

Upon reaching Chittorgarh, the atmosphere felt different—quieter, more introspective. Unlike the bustling streets of Jaipur or Udaipur, this town seems to wear its past with solemn pride. Locals are warm and welcoming, always ready with a story about their heritage. The old-world charm of Chittorgarh is tangible, from the small tea stalls serving masala chai to the vibrant local markets selling handmade crafts and Rajasthani textiles.

Chittorgarh: A fortress built with stone, stories and soul

Chittorgarh Fort: A Monument of Courage and Sacrifice

The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the Chittorgarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spread over 700 acres and perched on a 180-meter-high hill, the fort is not just an architectural marvel but a living chronicle of Rajput valor.

Our guided tour began at Ram Pol, the main gate, and as we progressed through the complex, each monument seemed to echo stories of bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering honor. Notable stops included:

  • Vijay     Stambh (Tower of Victory): Built by Maharana     Kumbha to commemorate his triumph over the Malwa army, the intricately     carved nine-story tower offers panoramic views of the town and fort     complex.
  • Padmini     Palace: Surrounded by water, this palace is     associated with the legendary beauty and courage of Queen Padmini, whose    story of jauhar (self-immolation) to protect her honor has become     synonymous with Chittorgarh.
  • Meera     Temple: A serene spot that celebrates the     spiritual devotion of Meera Bai, the saint-poetess and devotee of Lord     Krishna, adding a peaceful spiritual dimension to the fort’s intense     historical backdrop.

What stood out to me was the powerful storytelling woven into every stone of the fort. Unlike other royal residences that primarily showcase opulence, Chittorgarh speaks of resistance, pride, and unyielding spirit. It was an emotional experience—more than just sightseeing, it felt like walking through pages of history.

Bundi: The Undiscovered Jewel of Rajasthan

Our day began in Bundi, a serene town often referred to as Rajasthan’s best-kept secret. Nestled amid the Aravalli Hill sand dotted with ornate stepwells, quiet lanes, and grand forts, Bundi offers a unique blend of heritage and tranquility.

Taragarh Fort views, stepwell strolls, and Bundi's magic in between

Exploring Bundi’s Charm

We explored the magnificent Taragarh Fort, both towering above the town and offering sweeping views and intricate murals that reflect Bundi’s rich artistic heritage. Strolling through the old lanes, we admired centuries-old havelis, adorned with traditional frescoes and delicate Jharokhas. The town felt like a living museum—charming, unhurried, and authentic.

Hotel Visits in Bundi

During our time in Bundi, we visited several character-filled heritage properties that reflect the spirit of the region:

  • Bundi     Haveli – Tastefully restored with     traditional décor and a peaceful ambiance.
  • Haveli     Braj Bhushanjee – A family-run heritage home with     warm hospitality and historical significance.

Stay at Hadoti Palace

I stayed at Hadoti Palace, a stately property that offered a comfortable and elegant experience. Its colonial-style architecture, spacious rooms, and proximity to major attractions made it an ideal base for exploring Bundi.

Ranthambore: Into the Wild

From the serene heritage of Bundi, we moved to the thrill of the jungle in Ranthambore, one of India’s premier wildlife destinations.

Grace in the wild - A sambar deer moment in Ranthambhore

Jungle Safari Experience

The highlight of our visit was the jeep safari in Ranthambore National Park, a thrilling adventure through dense forest trails and open grasslands. Although tiger sightings are never guaranteed, we were fortunate to witness diverse wildlife, including sambar deer, crocodiles, tigers, langurs, and an incredible range of birdlife. The anticipation and sheer beauty of the jungle made the experience unforgettable.

Not just a forest - Ranthambhore is a kingdom of the wild

Resort Visits in Ranthambore

As part of our professional tour, we inspected several of Ranthambore’s most prominent properties:

  • Taj     Sawai Madhopur Lodge – A royal hunting lodge turned     luxury retreat.
  • The     Oberoi Vanyavilas – Unmatched in elegance,     offering luxury tents amidst nature.

  • Ranthambhore     Regency – Known for its consistent service     and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Ranthambhore     Kothi – Offering colonial charm with modern amenities.

Stay at Tiger Inn Comfort

I stayed at Tiger Inn Comfort, a welcoming and budget-friendly resort that exceeded expectations with its courteous staff, clean rooms, and well-maintained surroundings—perfect for travellers seeking value without compromising comfort.

Jaipur: The Royal Finale

Our final destination was the Pink City – Jaipur, where culture, heritage, and luxury blend seamlessly.

Where royalty once lived and elegance still lingers - Amber fort, Jaipur

Exploring the City

We visited the majestic Amber Fort, where the grandeur of Rajput architecture left us awestruck. A particularly heartwarming experience was feeding elephants, a chance to interact compassionately with these gentle giants. Our journey continued with a tour of the opulent City Palace, and a walk through the vibrant local markets—from textile sand jewelry to handcrafted souvenirs, Jaipur’s bazaars are a sensory delight.

From palaces to pink alleys - Jaipur is royalty wrapped in color

Hotel Visits in Jaipur

As part of our FAM itinerary in Jaipur, we had the opportunity to visit an impressive selection of hotels, each offering its own distinctive blend of luxury, heritage, and hospitality. The lineup included Umaid Bhawan, Dileep Kothi, RAAS Rajmahal Palace, Taj Rambagh Palace, Taj Jai Mahal Palace, Samode Haveli, Khandela Haveli, Hilton Jaipur, Alsisar Haveli, Mandawa Haveli, and Bissau Palace. These properties represented a diverse spectrum—from modern five-star comfort to regal heritage stays—each tailored to suit various segments of the luxury traveller market. Whether it was the contemporary elegance of Hilton Jaipur or the timeless grandeur of palaces like Rambagh and Rajmahal, every property provided a unique perspective on the hospitality that defines Rajasthan.

Stay at Shahpura House

I had the pleasure of staying at Shahpura House, a heritage hotel that beautifully blends royal architecture with modern-day amenities. With its ornate interiors, warm service, and an atmosphere of regal calm, it provided the perfect conclusion to our Rajasthan sojourn.
